The Real Deal About Weight Loss Pills

The Real Deal About Weight Loss Pills

Living in today’s high end and critical society is really difficult for some people. Sadly, while some are lucky enough to be born perfect, there are those who are physically underdeveloped or are not as endowed with the perfect body. Since conformity is the trick for one to get by in the eyes of peers, many individuals tend to do anything possible just to be considered “in”.

Fat or obese individuals are oftentimes shunned by most people, and the extremely petite women are wowed upon by many. As such, women tend to do whatever it takes just to loose weight. Some go for surgical procedures and others prefer the natural way to loose body fat. Apart from surgery and exercise, there are those who choose to take weight loss pill instead.

Defining weight loss diet pill

Weight loss pill is a tablet that is often taken by obese individuals for the hopes of having their fat and wide bodies slim down. As the demand for weight loss pill continues to grow each year, the market for these products also flourishes. In fact, anyone can buy these pills almost anywhere in the world.

There are two types of weight loss pills: The prescription weight loss pill and the over-the-counter pill. The prescription weight loss pill products are the ones recommended by doctors to obese patients. These products are considered cosmetic in nature, thus, requiring patients to still continue with their exercise and diet.

On the other hand, over the counter weight loss pill products are the ones most commonly regarded as food supplements. Majority of these weight loss pills that are available in the market today are not really effective. Most of these products are inexpensive and falsely promise consumers of fast weight loss results, thus, making them irresistible for people who find surgery as a costly procedure and exercise as a difficult daily task.

Side effects of OTC and prescription weight loss pills

Over-the-counter weight loss pills generally contain high amount of amphetamine-related ingredients that can cause physical and psychological imbalances. As for prescription weight loss pills, the most common side effects are impotence, high blood pressure, hair loss, chest pain, and fever.

Some things to consider

Although weight loss pills are widely available in the worldwide market today, it is still important for consumers to remember that these products do not necessarily give fast weight loss results, for intake of these medications requires continuous or consistent maintenance of proper diet and exercise.

When taking in weight loss pills, follow the exact dosage instructed by the doctor. If side effects occur upon using these medications, remember to immediately consult a doctor. Also be wary with products that claim to have herbal ingredients, for these are not healthier or safer than the other weight loss pills. Never fall for cheaper products just because they are noted to contain natural ingredients.

Remember that diet pills work when the consumption is under the supervision of a doctor and is associated with proper exercise, diet, and positive attitude towards losing weight.

Common Symptoms for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Common Symptoms for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Unlike other types of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis is actually an autoimmune disease. The immune system of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis turns on its own, specifically attacking the joints and other surrounding tissue. In a way, rheumatoid arthritis could be likened to allergies but with starkly different symptoms. While the common symptoms of allergies include runny nose, itchiness of the eyes, and skin rash, the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis include inflammation in the lining of the joints and pain in the affected areas.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition that affects more than two million people, usually between the ages of 20 and 25. Additionally, the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis occur in all races and ethnic groups, regardless of age or sex, although it appears that the disease affects two to three times as many women as men.

Diagnosis

Since the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis differ from patient to patient, there is no single method of making accurate diagnosis. Moreover, the symptoms tend to develop overtime, making it even more difficult to identify the disease early on. To determine the existence of the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis, health care professionals apply a variety of methods from blood testing to X-rays. Aside from identifying the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis, these methods are also used to rule out other conditions that may display more or less the same symptoms.

The other factors that health care practitioners often take into account when diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis include:

* Medical history
* Physical examinations
* Laboratory tests
* X-rays

After Diagnosis, Now what?

After a patient is diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, the next step is to learn as much as you can about the disease in order to understand it. First up, you need to understand that early detection of the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis s often the key to helping you live longer despite the disease. Remember that there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis and that as the person ages, the symptoms may grow worse. However, if you identify these common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis early on and undergo aggressive treatment, you increase your chance of living a long and healthy normal life.

Dealing with the Pain

One of the most common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis is joint pain. Usually this is accompanied by some degree of depression, anxiety, and feelings of helplessness. Most patients who suffer joint pain also suffer morning stiffness in and around the joints. Sometimes the pain becomes too much to bear that patients refuse to move as motion will only serve to aggravate the pain.

However, recent studies show that exercise can actually alleviate some of the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis. Constant motion balanced with a good diet and plenty of rest will ease the pain that comes with this debilitating disease and help you live a better life.

Be advised that you should consult with your doctor first before attempting any strenuous exercise routines, as there are some types of exercises that arthritic patients should not do.

Looking After Your Dog, Part Nine – Dog Grooming

Looking After Your Dog, Part Nine – Dog Grooming

The phrase “dog grooming” conjures up an image of expensive salons for pets. It’s true that your pet does not need fancy haircuts, expensive baths or oil treatments. But shunning away the idea of dog grooming is akin to handling your pet with shortsightedness. Your pet’s appearance is a mirror to its overall health and wellbeing. Lack of grooming may lead to major health problems. Dog groomers ensure that your dog not only looks good but feels good as well.

Professional dog groomers suggest basic grooming for eyes, ears, teeth, face, tummy, skin, feet and nails, and coat should be done regularly.

Appropriate eye care entails regular cleansing. Your dog’s eyes should be bright, lustrous and clean. You must ensure that there are no signs of redness or excessive discharge. There is likely to be periodic buildup in the dog’s eye, which must be wiped out with a clean, damp cloth. However, if the discharge is thick or mucous-like, you must consult a veterinarian.

Ear care is also an important aspect of dog grooming. Moisture and dirt buildup inside the pet’s ear is a breeding ground for bacteria. You should trim ear hair and wipe with a clean cloth, thereby ensuring that the ear is kept dry. Any buildup of wax in the ear must be treated immediately, lest an infection sets in. The veterinarian would typically employ a solution to dissolve the ear wax and then cleanse it using a cloth or Q-tip.

Dental hygiene is equally important for your dog as it is for you. Plaque and tartar buildup causes gum disease. It is a common misconception that a balanced diet can prevent gum diseases or other teeth related problems. Cleaning the teeth and gums is highly essential for proper dental care. Dog groomers clean a pet’s teeth and gums in order to prevent unnecessary plaque buildup.

Dog groomers stress on brushing a dog’s coat on a weekly basis. A thick and matted coat encourages bacterial infection and other diseases of the skin, and hence it is all more necessary to keep your dog’s coat clean. Stroking with a soft brush gets rid of dead hair, dander and dirt.

As every dog groomer would suggest, trim your dog’s nails at least once a month. It is a misconception that long hair between the toes would keep your dog’s feet warm in winters. Instead it would collect dirt and grime, and may encourage infection. Therefore, keep the hair trimmed at all times.

The World of Sports Nutrition

The World of Sports Nutrition

Advancements in medicine and an increase in capitalism in the world as well as other factors all contributed to the development of the field of sports nutrition.

As scientists learned more and more about our bodies and the optimum level of strength and physical fitness they can harbor, businessmen jumped the gun and manufactured products and services that actually help athletes meet these optimum levels. The media joined in the ruckus and published materials leading to the promotion of both the scientific and the commercial side of the field.

Sports nutrition has been changing through the years around the world. It’s not just that the topics are different – the emphasis and approach have also changed.

Peak Performance, a sports magazine carried an article on dehydration in runners on October 1990, its maiden issue. This article compared the benefits of plain water with those of dilute glucose solutions, which are more isotonic and therefore absorbed more rapidly.

Today, go into almost any supermarket, convenience stores and even school cafeterias and you’ll find a ready supply of sports drinks aimed at maintaining hydration just like glucose solutions.

The difference is that by using soluble long-chain glucose polymers instead of simple glucose, it’s now possible to create an isotonic hydrating drink which also supplies significant amounts of carbohydrate to working muscles. And, the good thing is, sports drinks also taste better.

More than 10 years ago, it was made public that muscle damage brought about by free-radicals may be reduced by having supplements of antioxidant vitamins A, C and E. Years after, antioxidant supplementation became a norm in the world of sports nutrition.

Now, researchers are also beginning to understand that muscle damage is a more complex subject. It is difficult to assess free radical damage in athletes and it has been found out that large amounts of antioxidant nutrients may actually cause cellular damage and impair performance.

The “Carbo loading” technique has been widely used over the years by athletes all over the world. A carbohydrate-rich diet is important in maintaining muscle glycogen stores thus ensuring high endurance levels.

However, in the 1990’s it became clear that the ‘glycaemic index’ and release rate of different carbohydrates had important influence on when they should best be consumed in relation to physical activity.

The relationship of carbohydrates and proteins were also discovered namely that carbohydrates promote protein-sparing in the body. It was also discovered recently that consuming carbohydrates before and during prolonged bouts of strenuous exercise can help protect the immune system.

One of the most exciting recent developments in sports nutrition has been the rise of creatine supplementation. The use of creatine is now very common. Creatine renews the muscles essential energy source, ATP or adenosine triphosphate. Increased levels in muscles optimizes energy turnover meaning you’ll more energy for high power exercise and faster recovery during and after workouts. Creatine also increases the athlete’s maximum effort, delays fatigue and therefore prolongs endurance.

New wisdom and therefore new products have definitely enabled athletes to fuel themselves better, work harder, train longer and recover more rapidly. However, as in any kind of innovation there will always be downsides.

Nutritional supplements available to most athletes in the 80’s were very straightforward. Some athletes took drugs but the boundaries between nutritional supplements and drugs clear. Today, the race to find new formulas to boost performance has resulted to the availability of sports nutrition supplements which do not really occur naturally. The result is that the distinction between a nutrient and a performance-enhancing substance has become increasingly blurred.

Some of these supplements contain ingredients that can cause athletes to violate the rules and regulations governing their sport because of unintentional contamination by other, ‘exotic’, substances present in the supplement manufacturing environment.

More developments will be created in the world of sports nutrition and these will definitely spawn ethical questions. “Nutrigenomics”—the relationship between genetics and nutrition—will be more researched upon.

As scientists become more skilled at discovering the processes of our genes, it will be possible that rather than adopting a general approach for sports nutrition, athletes around the world will be genetically tested to help them determine precise individual requirements for optimum health.

The next years will predictably be more exciting for the world of sports nutrition.

The Myth Of Gaining Muscle Without Fat!

The Myth Of Gaining Muscle Without Fat!

Many of you have expressed concerns about gaining too much body fat while on such a high calorie diet, and wonder if you should do some aerobic exercise to offset the weight gain.

Absolutely not.

That will be detrimental to gaining muscle. For best results, you either have to train and diet to gain muscle or lose fat. One or the other. If you are a true hardgainer, you cannot do both. If you try, you will not make any substantial progress either way. So, now is the time to gain weight. You will worry about losing fat later.

The fact is that there are no magic pills, powders, foods or exercises that will allow you to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.

It all is determined by your genetics and metabolism. Some people can do it, some can't. If you are naturally thin and have a difficult time gaining weight of any kind, it would be silly of you to think that you will be able to gain muscle while trying to keep your body fat low.

Most skinny guys want to gain more muscle, but are afraid of gaining body fat. They see all the bodybuilder photos and read the stories about people gaining pounds of muscle while losing pounds of fat — They want to do the same. When looking at these photos, you have to remember that most of these people do not have your body type. The majority of them are overweight and want to lose fat, not gain muscle.

‘Well', you say, ‘What about those people who transformed their bodies? They lost fat and gained muscle'. Yes, but almost all of these people were overweight, or had high levels of body fat. In other words, their metabolisms were, for the most part, slow. They simply dieted and trained for fat loss.

Weight training helped them to tone up and slightly increase their muscle mass by replacing some of the fat with muscle. However, you will never increase your body mass far above your original starting weight on that type of diet.

In other words, even though you gain some muscle, you will actually weight less!

For example, Big Joe weighs 189lbs with 18% body fat. This works out to be 34lbs of fat and 155lbs of muscle. He then goes on a fat loss diet and slowly diets down to a ripped 5% body fat at 168lbs, which is 8.4lbs of fat and 160lbs of muscle. He lost 26lbs of fat, and his weight only went down by 21lbs. So, looking that this we realize that he managed to also gain 5lbs of muscle. You can see that he has more muscle mass than when he started, and he looks totally ripped, but his weight decreased because his main goal was fat loss. He looks much better, and his measurements changed, but he only increased his total weight by five pounds.

If you are very thin, you cannot do this. Yes, your body fat will decrease, and this will also give you more muscle mass, but it will not increase your weight. You will just get much thinner. Big Joe was ‘big' to begin with; we are not. To get the same results as Big Joe, you must first gain the weight, and then concentrate on losing the body fat later. Joe had the size; he just needed to trim down. We do not have the size to work with, so we have to force our bodies to grow beyond our body's comfort range. This is the hard part.

This is why if you want to grow beyond your current size, you have to diet for it specifically.

Remember, most of you have extremely fast metabolisms. Gaining weight will be extremely difficult.

The only way you will get bigger is to shock your body.

You must shock your body by:

1. Training with heavy weights, and

2. Eating a lot of calories.

The first shock is with weight training. You must focus on compound free- weight exercises, and lift heavy weights, which will stimulate the largest amount of muscle fibers. Your body responds to this stimulus by increasing your muscle mass.

The second way we must shock our body is by eating more calories than your body is used to. This is the most important factor in gaining mass. When you overload your system with plenty of protein and fats, your body has no other choice but to gain weight.

Tennis Elbow Treatment

Tennis Elbow Treatment

How do you cure tennis elbow? First you have to know what causes it and how it happens. Tennis elbow involves injury to the extensor muscles of your forearm and its tendon origin. You have to be aware of the tissues that you have injured to eliminate the symptoms. The elbow is a hinge joint allowing both flexion and extension. The bone structure and its ligaments make its function stable. Tennis involves repeated gripping and twisting movements which work your extensor muscles. If repetitive micro-trauma is placed on the tissues, these tissues are unable to cope up which results to muscle tear on this area.

Tennis elbow treatment for tennis elbow injury varies, depending on the severity of the injury. Some treatment may include stopping or limiting activities that causes the pain, in these cases a band is wrapped around the forearm near the elbow or a wrist sprint is recommended and are used to protect the injured muscles as they heal.

Other primary tennis elbow treatment includes; anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), injections, and by the treatment called R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). But these tennis elbow treatments however can just treat the symptoms but not the main cause of the injury. In severe cases, an injection of medication into the injured area can relieve the pain. Surgeons recommend exercises such as stretching and strengthening the muscles to help stop the condition from returning. Some go through therapy and as the condition improves they gradually return to normal activities. This condition however is recurring in most cases. If the non- surgical forms of tennis elbow treatment do not work, then surgery may be recommended.

Here are categories of tennis elbow treatment: reducing pain, which includes the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; reducing inflammation, by putting packs of ice on the injured area combined with compression and elevation; inducing the healing process; maintaining fitness, by rehabilitation of the injured area through exercise; and control force placed on injured tissues, such as tennis elbow braces and wrist sprint.

A new form of possible tennis elbow treatment has arise, one is called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, wherein sound waves are used to induce so called ‘micro-trauma’ to tissues that initiates a healing response and helps to decrease inflammation. Another is Autologous Blood Injection, were in the Journal of Hand Surgery reported the results of a small group of patients who underwent injection of their own blood into the location of lateral epicondylitis with the underlying idea that the blood injection supplies the necessary healing components to help cure the problem.
